Welcome all families to the School Year 2020-2021!

SVCS has been operated by volunteers for last 46 years. The Board Members for this year are the following parents:

Elaine Hu          [Chairman]

Derek Wu          [Secretary & School Assets]

Connie Chiang  [Finance]

Andy Chern       [Facility Rental/Parent Survey]

Paul Sun           [Seminars/Community Outreach/Marketing]

Ronald Law       [Insurance/Regulation]

The board is the voice of the parents. We will continue with our roles of monitoring and assisting the School Administration, along with planning and voting on School's major decisions. During this era of pandemic and crisis, communication is paramount. Our focus for this year will be to strengthen the school's communication channels with our parents and promote our school to more families in our community.

President Message 05/29/2020

Time flies, 2019-2020 school year is coming to an end.
Under the leadership of Principal Derek Chen, Vice Principals Sabrina Wu and Jim Chang, we once again successfully sailed through this forty-sixth year of Silicon Valley Chinese school. I sincerely thank our board team Ms. Elaine Hu, Ms. Alice Lin, Ms. Grace Wen, Mr. Jinsoo Li, Mr. Andy Chern and Mr. Ronald Mg for their support and coordination. All parent volunteers have contributed their time and energy to create this excellent learning environment for our children. Thank you all for your efforts throughout the past year. Your relentless efforts marked clear footsteps that provide guidance for future Silicon Valley Chinese students to follow.
2020 is plagued with arguably the most severe pandemic in human history. Beginning of March, our board team set up a crisis management team and rapidly prepared the potential transition to online courses the first time in our school history. On March 17th, after Santa Clara County announced the suspension of classes, we immediately began our online classes through virtual classrooms. Over the past nine weeks closure of Lynbrook High campus, we have completed the school year without compromising any planned education including supplemental courses, such as singing, animation, and history culture classes. Thanks to all the volunteers working behind the scenes. Special shout out to all board members, staffs, and particularly our IT teams led by Danny Hsiao. They spent hours working with teachers to roll out our first-time online education and standby on all classes each Friday’s online sessions. Without their tireless effort, our school will not be able to continue without interruption. Special thanks to all our dedicated teachers as well. They spent unimaginable time and efforts to prepare these online learning, and we cannot thank them enough. In addition, I would like to thank class rep and vice rep for their efforts to build a communication bridge between teachers, school, and parents. Certainly, the supports and assistances from all you parents are the key to our success in completing this school year with a job well done period.
Due to this pandemic and campus closure, we were forced to adapt to a different learning environment. On the other hand, we were able to explore different ways of learning and communication. Hopefully, after this unprecedented event, a new path may open to all of us in its own way.
Finally, I would like to congratulate all students for their completion of this year's Chinese courses.  I hope you have enjoyed learning the language and wish you to make even greater advance in the years to come.

President Message 05/15/2020

Silicon Valley Chinese School families will be receiving ballot of the next board election this week. We are grateful to those seven parents who are willing to contribute their time and talents to serve school as board members. Please give your full support to those candidates by completing the ballots and mailing back to school. The pre-stamped envelopes are included in the mail for your convenience. We are still planning to hold a public mail-in ballot opening and vote counting early June assuming the shelter-in-place order will be lifted end of May. And we will post the result on Silicon Valley Chinese School website. In case there is a delay in lifting the order, we will work out alternative date and communicate to SVCS families.
Please use your sacred vote to select your candidates. We look forward to having the best Board team continuing to serve our Chinese school and to make policy decisions in the school years to come.

President Message 05/08/2020

This week is the 30th week of the school year. The 2019-2020 school year will end on 5/29 in 3 weeks. Thanks to all parents’ support for SVCS was able to continue students’ learning through online classes during this difficult time. As the school year is coming to the end, on one hand, we are going to miss those students who're graduating. On the other hand, we are glad for their achievement and wish them to continue their Chinese learning beyond SVCS. In addition, we are looking forward to having more new parents to join the SVCS volunteer team. The Board election application deadline will end by this coming Saturday. We are looking forward to seeing all the new faces join our school board team.

President Message 05/01/2020

Parental school management has always been a solid foundation for Silicon Valley Chinese School that passed on for generations. Parents came with different expertise have devoted their times and talents that created this extradentary learning environment for our children. Keeping this tradition with the goal to better serve students and their families, we are asking parents to show your support by stepping up to join the school wide volunteer teams.
Due to this year’s pandemic situation, the board election will need to undergo a bit of change. The deadline for candidate nominations will be 5/10, and the ballot will be mailed out in the third week of May. Please mail back your vote before 5/29 and the school will announce 7 new 2020-2021 board members in the first week of June.
By the way, there are four board directors resigning from their positions next school year. They are either reaching 2-year term limit or graduating from our school. We are grateful to their dedicated support to school, in the meantime, we look forward to the new blood joining our board of directors. All SVCS parents are more than welcomed to join.
